What does a reading habit look like?
A solid reading habit is life changing. Not only does reading books far surpass the quality and quantity of knowledge obtained through any other method, it is also the most efficient form of learning.
Reading creates a seemingly endless source of information to pull from to not only sound like the smartest person most people have ever conversed with, but impressive to all who you encounter. It can lead to opportunities both professional and romantic. I've experienced attention and offers I could have never dreamed of previously. I have been offered life changing jobs that I would have never had the opportunity to get without the books I talked about with those individuals. I have received attention from others who want to be around me simply from wanting someone who knows as much as I know.
I have experienced first hand what it is to learn from the experience and wisdom of others. First hand experience is important, vitally important in life. But without learning from others we waste the most important resource of all, our time. Reading is like time travel, to go back to a time whether it be a few years ago, a few hundred years, or a few thousand years ago to hear what questions others asked and answered. Without this platform of which to launch our first hand experience from, we risk re-inventing the wheel or even worse, operating on limited ideas which hinders the creativity necessary to truly benefit from first hand experience.
A reading habit can involve physical books, ebook, or audiobooks. All formats are created equal contrary to common beliefs. The medium is not important as long as the information is consumed. The idea is not to feel like we are learning or paying attention, it is comprehension of relevant information. Unlike reading in school, the purpose of reading in your life now is not to "get it" all on one read through in preperation for a test or essay. But instead it is about digesting and repetition over long periods of time. For a reading habit to be truely beneficial you will learn to create your own personal library of relevant books and authors that you will benefit from reading year after year along with new books and authors you discover along the way. Many books you will only read once, but the best books you will learn from you should feel like you can read for pages or hours and only retain a handful of things. This depth of reading is key, even if it feels like you are "missing" something or not paying attention or getting distracted.
Ideally we would want to have the range to read in all 3 formats, but most importantly it is about knowing how and when to read to form the habit you will need to succeed.

Reading is a powerful habit, quite possibly the most important habit one can form for all personal growth. Reading can feel like a chore, or a task impossible to find the time for. This is not a unique problem, which means there are tried and true methods to overcoming this hurdle. Forming a habit, any habit, not just reading, all comes down to finding the habit triggers we can hijack to insert a new habit into our life. Willpower alone is rarely enough to form a habit, let alone sustain one. Notes, reminders, alarms, are all hit or miss as well. Finding the action trigger is key, these can all be learned about in books such as Tiny Habits or The Power of Habit as well as other books about habits.
I am willing to share the secret of it all with you because it is simple and if you can do it on your own, I want you to. I'm not looking to convince anyone that they need my help when they do not. What I am looking to do is invest in others the way I wish I had someone to invest in me. It took me years to go from 1-2 books a year to a book a week, but with my experience shared throughout your process of investing in your reading habit I have seen others achieve a book-a-week reading habit in their first year of investing in themselves using what I have shared with them.
